This information is for people who have pole dancing experiences from another studio, and want to transfer into PoleLaTeaz, and want to skip ahead to another level. Please keep in mind that we teach a movement, not just pole tricks; so very rarely will any student be able to test out beyond Level 3. The option to test out of a pole dance level is available before each new session begins. Assessment dates and times vary throughout the year. This option is only available for new students only.
VERY IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE YOU SET UP AN ASSESSMENT APPOINTMENT!
TO TEST OUT OF A POLE DANCE LEVEL, YOU MUST MEET THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. The process of learning pole dancing is similar to learning any other new skill sets - through repetition, progression, and lots of practice. Transfer students seeking to skip a level must have been practicing pole dancing for a minimum of 2 months, during which you have been practicing consistently for about 1-2 times a week.
2. Student safety is a top priority at PoleLaTeaz. To promote body balancing and minimize straining associated with repeat use of specific muscle groups, we teach every pole spin on both the left and right hand. Even though people naturally have a dominate hand, let it be left or right, we practice every spin on both sides in our classes. Transfer students seeking to skip a level must demonstrate ability to execute a variety of pole spins (determined by assessing instructors) with both their left and right hand.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY OF ASSESSMENT:
(There will be two instructors assessing you during the whole process.)
1. First, we will start with a group warm up, therefore It is imperative you arrive on time. It is unfair to the instructors and students who are there on time and have to wait for you before starting the assessment.
2. Second, there will be an instructor-lead pole spin test. An instructor will demonstrate a series of pole spins, one at a time. After each demonstration, you will have to repeat the spin with the left and the right hand.
3. Third, there will be a floorwork/filler move test. During this portion of the assessment, you will need to do a minimum of one minute sexy floorwork/filler move dance (to a song of your choice from our vast collection of music) where you may utilize the pole, but can not do any pole spins. This portion tests the dance aspect of "pole dancing".
*Floorwork and filler moves are any movements that are not pole spins.
*You can get a visual of what floorwork and filler moves are by viewing one of PoleLaTeaz's improv dance videos on youtube by clicking here. Everything the instructors do in the videos that are not pole spins are floorwork/filler moves.
4. Fourth, there will be an improvisational dance test. During this portion of the assessment, you will need to do a minimum of two minutes of improvisational dance (to a song of your choice from our vast collection of music) where you get to show us your best moves. You can do any combination of floorwork, filler moves, and pole spins (but only the spins the instructors saw you do earlier in the assessment).
5. Fifth, after you have gone through the warm-up, pole spin, floorwork/filler moves, and improvisational portions of the assessment, the instructors will deliberate on your performances and compare them to PoleLaTeaz standards. After the deliberation, the instructors will share with you their observations, thoughts and any other constructive criticism they may have. They will also let you know whether you meet PoleLaTeaz's requirements to move ahead to a higher level.
*If you disagree with the result of the assessment, you have the option to take advantage of our studio camera to request a recording of your performance and review the recording with the instructor(s) for visual feedback. The video recording will be used for the sole purpose of providing visual feedback to the instructors and to you. We respect the privacy of our students, instructors, and every potential students that walk through our doors. Therefore, we will not do a recording of you unless you request us to do so; and it will not be distributed or published in any form. The recording will be deleted after it serves its purpose. Depending on how many people requests for a recording, it may be done on the same day as the assessment or be scheduled to a future date.
AFTER YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO READ THROUGH THE ABOVE INFORMATION, AND IF YOU MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, PLEASE CALL STUDIO AT 404-399-3358 OR EMAIL INFO@POLELATEAZ TO SCHEDULE AN ASSESSMENT APPOINTMENT.
