"Is Exotic/Sensual Dance a Lifetime Sport?" August 2007 |

Hey Gorgeous Ladies Of Georgia,
So an interesting topic came up in one of our classes a few weeks ago. We were talking about other sports/fitness activities that we have done in the past. Then a small joke was made about how people want to do those heavy contact sports like basketball, ice hockey, full contact football, but you can only do those kind of activities until a certain point in your life due to aging and fragile bones which in turn would be unsafe.
Then a student said "but those kind of physical activities are not a lifetime sport". Some of us have never heard of that term before. So it got us thinking....could exotic dance be a lifetime sport? The wheels in our brains began to turn.....................
So what is the definition of a lifetime sport? Basically a "lifetime sport" would be considered a sport that is gentle, keeps someone active, which helps to maintain balance, coordination, and agility. In addition to that a lifetime sport is one that you can practice throughout all the stages of your life. You can learn it as a child, practice it in the physical prime of your twenties, and continue to practice it until you pass away. And last but not least it should be something that the person likes. Some examples of what has been classified as a lifetime sport....yoga, tai chi, and dancing.
We have taught thousands of women at our studio whose ages range from 20 to 65 years old. Everyone has their own physical limitations but any woman can truly exotic dance. So is it a lifetime sport? In our book.....YES! Will you see us wearing our 6" heels when we are 85 dancing around a pole? Of course. A woman never lets a pair of good heels go to waste...no matter what age.
Sincerely,
